Inspiration
My art career as a painter and sculptor began in 2017. Most of my artwork is comprised of three-dimensional, sculptural acrylic paintings on canvas and wood. They focus on lively figures of humans, animals, landscape and fantasy images placed in colorful abstract compositions. Although primarily self-taught, my innate creativity and design ideas can be attributed to my early career as an automotive designer and engineer. I hold five patents and thirty-three registered copyrights in art design. I also have several years’ experience in repurposing furniture, which provided experience with color, form, function and dimension. I am also an avid experimenter along with taking courses on Udemy and YouTube to expand my understanding of the range of available materials and techniques.
Techniques
My techniques are also self-taught in the use of sculpting compound, which I make myself and provides for a ‘realistic’ 3D image on a 2D canvas. My compound is made of several materials that are non-toxic, provide workability, durability (expansion/contraction for temperature) and ‘stickability’, meaning the sculptures adhere to the canvas & wood without separation or cracking. The material is designed using an acrylic base for use with acrylic and other water-based paints/material. The backgrounds for many of my paintings are created using several different ‘paint pouring’ techniques along with brushwork and multi-layering. Every painting I make includes a new ‘experiment’ in technique, materials and subjects, to provide continuous learning. Enjoy!
Career Highlights
I consider myself an innovative artist and natural storyteller, with a desire to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. My simplified human forms exude personality, such as “Woman with Violin”. Other paintings are message driven, such as "Swimming through the Stars". This work of art received the honor of being selected by the ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids Michigan. It depicts a three-dimensional whale swimming through a celestial realm that symbolizes the universe. Depending on the light and position of the viewer, the whale shines brightly or seemily disappears completely. In this way, the I call our attention to our responsibility to save the endangered mammal. “The whale is swimming back home into the Universe.” Recently, The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS, an initiative of Manhattan Arts International, based in New York, NY, invited Me to join their “Friends” and “Artist’ communities.
